Description: Haiti Net Literacy (2020) reports that Haiti has the lowest computer literacy rate in the Western hemisphere, and only 11 % of Haitians have access to Information Technology (IT), and less than 1% of public schools in Haiti have some limited access to computer literacy. There are close to 5,000 secondary students in Vialet, and it’s a real and concerning issue that there are no computer rooms in the community for the young people to do research and learn essential computer skills. Students have little choice but to travel to the city center to get this vital computer access. Usually, a young person may currently spend up to $US 80 on city access to computers. This can be a real barrier to learning as the students are from low-income families. Sometimes they do not even gain access due to insufficient computers available in the main city of Petit-Goave. This sustainable and essential project, that includes computer rooms, aims at addressing a fundamental inequality and provides necessary student support in Vialet and then scale up across Haiti. Instead of providing a limited number of schools with few computers as it has been practiced in some regions in Haiti, which is very costly, and difficult to scale, and not inclusive, we propose a new approach to build innovative centres (civil engineering drawings have been already created by our civil engineer) and equip them with considerable number of computers and provide each school in the locality where the project is implemented with a schedule during the week, enabling them to come to the centre to teach the course and to practice at the same time with their students.
